Shimla, May 9 (PTI) Adani Agri Fresh Limited (AAFL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Limited, on Saturday announced that it will soon begin procuring stone fruits, especially cherries, from Himachal Pradesh.

"We will begin cherry procurement from the upcoming season and gradually expand into other stone fruits such as peaches and plums. This is part of our continued effort to build on our apple procurement experience and provide better market access to farmers," a company spokesperson said.

He said that this initiative is expected to improve fruit storage life, provide farmers access to larger markets, and ensure better prices for their produce.

"AAFL has been among the first organised companies involved in apple procurement, storage, and marketing in Himachal Pradesh. The company started operations in 2006 under the Farm-Pik brand. Since then, it has procured more than 300,000 metric tonnes of apples from over 17,000 farmers and has directly paid nearly Rs 1,500 crore to farmers," the official said.

The company has developed a total storage capacity of 25,000 metric tonnes in Himachal Pradesh, helping preserve fruits for longer durations and enabling farmers to access larger markets, he said.

He further said that AAFL's Controlled Atmosphere (CA) storage facilities at six locations in Himachal Pradesh have now been upgraded for the storage and distribution of cherries.
