Ambala Domestic Airport to Open Soon: Union Minister Verma
Chandigarh, Jun 9 (PTI) Union minister B L Verma on Tuesday said the newly constructed domestic airport (Civil Enclave) at Ambala Cantonment would be the country's 165th operational airport and will soon begin flight services.

The Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution said that before 2014, when Narendra Modi became the prime minister, only 74 airports were operational in the country.

Verma made the remarks after inspecting the airport in Ambala.

Haryana Energy Minister Anil Vij was with him, according to a press release.

During their visit, Vij informed the minister that the military airbase at Ambala Cantonment is among the oldest and most important airbases in the country.

According to the statement, Vij said the runway at Ambala Cantonment is equipped with modern facilities, enabling safe aircraft operations, round-the-clock and under all weather conditions.

He said the domestic airport is spread over 20 acres and is expected to serve as an important aviation hub for passengers from Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh.

Ambala Cantonment is one of North India's major railway junctions, with around 276 trains arriving and departing daily, he told the minister.

According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, there are no technical obstacles to starting flight services from the airport.
