BEML Allotted Land for Chhattisgarh''s First Heavy Equipment Plant

Raipur, Aug 6 (PTI) The Chhattisgarh government has allotted 79.7 acres of land at a concessional rate in Mungeli district to state-run Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) for setting up the state's first heavy earth-moving equipment manufacturing plant, officials said on Thursday.

The proposal to allot the land in Chandragarhi village under Patharia tehsil was approved by the state cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, at its meeting on Wednesday, a government official said.



The proposed facility will be the first heavy earth-moving equipment manufacturing plant in Chhattisgarh and is expected to emerge as a major hub for modern engineering and manufacturing activities in the state, he said.

The plant will come up at Chandragarhi village, located 30 km from the Bilaspur-Raipur National Highway. The project is expected to generate direct employment for local youth, provide technical training and boost ancillary industries such as MSMEs, logistics, transportation and spare parts manufacturing, the official said.


Mungeli Collector Kundan Kumar said the project would lay the foundation for industrial development in the district and open up new employment opportunities for local youth.

"This decision will prove to be a milestone in creating an industrial ecosystem in the district and promoting modern manufacturing and engineering activities," Kumar said in a statement.



Patharia Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Rekha Chandra said Raigarh and Janjgir-Champa districts were initially being considered for the project.

Under the guidance of the Mungeli collector, a joint team of the District Trade and Industries Centre and the Revenue Department identified 79.70 acres of suitable government land in Chandragarhi village and submitted the proposal to the state government, which has now received cabinet approval, she added.
