New Delhi, Jul 18 (PTI) The future of India's handloom sector and the remarkable resurgence of its endangered weaving traditions came into focus at 'Bharat Tex 2026' during a special fireside conversation.

M Beena, Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, and Priyambada Jayakumar, author, public speaker and handloom connoisseur, engaged in the discussion that concluded with a shared recognition that the future of India's handloom sector depends not only on continued policy support and artisan-led innovation, but also on sustained public engagement.

Held at Bharat Mandapam on Thursday, the conversation explored how strategic policy interventions, artisan resilience and collective stewardship are ensuring that traditional weaving practices continue to evolve while remaining rooted in generations of craftsmanship.

At the heart of the discussion were three stories of revival -- Tangaliya from Gujarat, Awadh Jamdani, and the Siddipet Gollabhama Saree from Telangana.

Bharat Tex 2026 is India's largest global textile event, bringing together the entire textile value chain on a single platform.
