Bharti Airtel Overtakes HDFC Bank Briefly

Bharti Airtel briefly became the 2nd most valuable firm by market cap, surpassing HDFC Bank in intra-day trade. Details inside.

New Delhi, May 18 (PTI) Bharti Airtel briefly surpassed HDFC Bank to become the second most valuable firm by market capitalisation on Monday, but later lost the title and finished the day at third position in the overall mcap ranking.
Shares of Bharti Airtel climbed 2.59 per cent to Rs 1,953.95 in intra-day trade on the BSE. Later, the stock ended at Rs 1,938.10, up 1.76 per cent, rallying for the fourth day running.
The stock of HDFC Bank on the other hand ended marginally higher by 0.10 per cent at Rs 768.55 after a volatile day of trade. During the day, it declined 2.12 per cent to Rs 751.50.
At intra-day high level, Bharti Airtel's market valuation jumped to Rs 11.90 lakh crore as the company's stock traded majorly in positive territory throughout the day.
HDFC Bank faced volatile trends and hit an intra-day low of Rs 751.50. At this level, the company's market valuation stood at Rs 11.56 lakh crore.
But at close of trade, HDFC Bank retained the title of the second most valuable firm, commanding a market capitalisation (mcap) of Rs 11,83,223.91 crore.
Bharti Airtel slipped to the third place, with a market valuation of Rs 11,80,937.63 crore.
Reliance Industries is the country's most valued firm with an mcap of Rs 18,06,864.57 crore.
So far this year, shares of HDFC Bank have declined by 22.50 per cent, while those of Bharti Airtel dropped 7.95 per cent.
Shares of Bharti Airtel climbed 2.59 per cent to Rs 1,953.95 in intra-day trade on the BSE. Later, the stock ended at Rs 1,938.10, up 1.76 per cent, rallying for the fourth day running.
