Tehri Garhwal, May 13 (PTI) Canon is looking to ride on the wave of storytelling in India, which is evolving and influencing global trends, a top official of the Japanese technology firm said on Wednesday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the global launch of new video-focused professional camera EOS R6V here, Canon Inc Managing Executive officer and Marketing Asia President and CEO for Canon Singapore Pte, Tiger Ishii, said India is a very much important market for the company with the country emerging as a strong power along with strong economic growth, large base of younger populations and house of highest number of YouTube viewers.
"India is one of the most dynamic creator markets in the world. From cinema and weddings to digital content and independent productions, storytelling in India is evolving and influencing global trends. India is the world's fastest-growing major economy with one of the youngest populations in the world. At Canon, we see India as a very important strategic engine of our future growth. Canon's leadership is built on strong innovation," Ishii said.
He said that due to the strategic importance of India for the company, Canon decided to launch its one of its flagship cameras for global consumers in this country.
"India is the most important market, that's why this time we have determined India as a centre of launching this product. The entire world will follow the Indian time of launch," Ishii said.
Canon, at the event, unveiled EOS R6V, priced at Rs 2,35,995, that has optimised for filmmaking with RF 20-50 F4L IS USM LENS, priced at Rs 1,42,995 apiece.
When asked about competition the company is facing with smartphones, Ishii said the mobile devices are not competitors, but they are like partners of cameras.
"Smartphones let people create a world of images. After which, people come back to the cameras to shoot more and enjoy the imaging more. We always think about not only the camera sales, but we think about imaging the world," Ishii said.
Canon India President and CEO, Toshiaki Nomura, said the company started operations in India back in 1997, and since then, it has been growing year on year due to strong economic growth here.
"We are not only pursuing our business growth but also giving a strong and positive impact to India's society through our cutting-edge technologies, innovative products and excellent services. If we look at the imaging business, creativity is blooming across the country," he said.
Nomura said that India is one of the largest markets in the digital content creation segment, ranging from cinema and regional storytelling to digital content and the rapidly growing wedding industry.
"In fact, 80 per cent of Gen Z consumers in India identify themselves as creators in some form. That is a powerful sign of how storytelling is becoming an everyday culture. Indian creators today are not only making content, but they are shaping culture, building communities and reaching audiences across the world," he said.
Nomura said that the growth of ambitions among Indian content creators is also driving expectations.
"Creators want cinematic quality, speed, flexibility and the freedom to tell a story in their own way. That's why the EOS R6V is more than just a device," he said.
