India's CCPA launches detailed investigation into persistent iPhone technical issues after iOS 18 update. Apple faces scrutiny over unresolved consumer complaints.

Key Points

  • The CCPA has initiated a detailed investigation into technical issues reported by iPhone users after the iOS 18 rollout.
  • This probe follows persistent problems despite a notice issued to Apple last year.
  • A recent LocalCircles survey shows an increase in iPhone user complaints since January 2025.
  • LocalCircles plans to share its findings with the CCPA and advocates for class action against Apple.
  • Consumer relief depends on Apple's internal prioritization and acknowledgment until enforceable directives are issued.
New Delhi, Sep 15 (PTI) The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has initiated a detailed investigation into the technical issues reported by iPhone users following the rollout of iOS 18, official sources said on Tuesday.

The regulator had issued a notice to Apple Inc last year, seeking a detailed response on the matter, including explanations on the technical issues reported, the timeline of their emergence, and the steps the company had taken to address them.

With the problems persisting a year after the notice was issued, sources said the CCPA "has now initiated a detailed investigation into the matter."

Meanwhile, a recent survey by LocalCircles shows that complaints among iPhone users have increased since its previous study in January 2025.

LocalCircles said it plans to share the latest findings with the CCPA, as an input into its ongoing investigation, and with other relevant authorities, while reiterating its demand for class action against Apple Inc, stating that no proper solution has been offered to affected iPhone users so far.

"The CCPA's escalation of the case and its scrutiny of Apple's software warranty terms is a welcome step," LocalCircles said in a statement.

However, it cautioned that until enforceable directives or penalties are issued, relief for affected consumers will largely depend on "Apple's internal prioritisation and willingness to publicly acknowledge the extent of the problem."
