Jitendra Singh inaugurates CEL's 200 MW solar module manufacturing line in Sahibabad. Boost for India's clean energy and indigenous manufacturing.
New Delhi, May 14 (PTI) Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Thursday inaugurated a 200 MW solar module manufacturing line of Central Electronics Ltd (CEL) at Sahibabad in Uttar Pradesh.

In a statement, the minister stated that the operationalisation of the line was a major milestone for India's clean energy ecosystem, reflecting the country's growing confidence in indigenous manufacturing and the expansion of renewable energy.

"Each renewable energy source has its own utility and importance, and India is moving ahead with an integrated approach towards clean energy expansion and sustainable development," said Singh.

The minister also highlighted the role of CEL in India's renewable energy journey, noting that it manufactured the country's first solar cell and established the first solar plant in 1977 and 1979, respectively. Founded in 1974, CEL is a government enterprise under the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research.

"Despite such pioneering achievements, CEL's contribution did not receive the recognition it deserved at that time, but the institution is now gaining renewed national visibility and relevance," said Singh.

He added that CEL was now expanding into future-oriented sectors, including hybrid renewable systems, data centres, and advanced defence electronics, reflecting India's growing technological confidence and strategic preparedness.
