Chhattisgarh Govt Ensures Fertiliser for Kharif Season

Chhattisgarh government implements multi-layered strategy to ensure timely fertiliser availability for farmers during Kharif season, preventing supply disruptions.
Raipur, Jun 3 (PTI) The Chhattisgarh government has put in place a multi-layered strategy to ensure fertiliser availability for farmers during the kharif crop season amid concerns that the West Asia situation may lead to supply disruptions, officials said on Wednesday.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, the government has been making concerted efforts to ensure timely availability of fertilisers and other agricultural inputs to farmers, an official statement said.
The Agriculture department, Cooperative department, Chhattisgarh State Cooperative Marketing Federation Limited (CG-Markfed) and district administrations have been closely monitoring fertiliser stocks and distribution, it said.
Special instructions have been issued to district collectors, agriculture officials, cooperative institutions and MARKFED to ensure adequate storage, timely transportation and smooth distribution of fertilisers. Authorities have also intensified monitoring to prevent black marketing, hoarding and irregular distribution, the release said.
According to the Agriculture Department, sufficient fertiliser stocks are currently available across districts.
At present, around 9.29 lakh metric tonnes of various chemical fertilisers are available in warehouses and cooperative societies across the state, the release said.
The Centre has allocated a target of 15.55 lakh metric tonnes of fertilisers to Chhattisgarh for the current kharif season. The allocation includes 7.25 lakh metric tonnes of urea, 3 lakh metric tonnes of DAP, 80,000 metric tonnes of MOP, 2.5 lakh metric tonnes of NPK and 2 lakh metric tonnes of SSP, it said.
Director of state's agriculture department Rahul Dev said the department has been continuously working to ensure that farmers receive adequate fertiliser supplies.
Fertilisers such as urea, DAP, NPK, SSP and MOP are being distributed through cooperative societies across all districts as per prescribed procedures, he said.
The state government has also been encouraging farmers to adopt balanced nutrient management practices. As part of this effort, awareness is being created about the use of nano DAP and nano urea, which are considered modern and efficient alternatives to conventional fertilisers, he said.
Agricultural scientists and departmental officials have been educating farmers about the benefits of nano fertilisers to help reduce dependence on traditional fertilisers, lower cultivation costs and improve nutrient-use efficiency, he said.
The Agriculture Department, however, clarified that the use of nano fertilisers is entirely voluntary and they are being made available only based on farmers' requirements and consent.
State Agriculture Minister Ramvichar Netam said the government has adopted a strict approach in matters affecting farmers' interests.
He said an FIR has been registered against the manager of Jilda Cooperative Society in Korea district, on finding irregularities in the distribution and storage of fertilisers and a departmental inquiry has also been initiated against him.
The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure that farmers face no inconvenience during the kharif season, the release said.
