CM Saini: Haryana's Agriculture Identity, FPOs, Food Security

Rewari, Jun 30 (PTI) Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday said Haryana has established a unique identity in agriculture, despite accounting for only 1.3 per cent of India's geographical area.

Haryana is the second-largest contributor to the Central food grain pool, reflecting the hard work, dedication, and commitment of its farmers, said Saini.

He was addressing a gathering during the concluding ceremony of the nationwide 'Khet Bachao Abhiyan' launched by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, according to an official release.

On this occasion, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was present.

Describing Haryana as a strong pillar of the nation's food security, Saini stated that the state government is continuously working to increase farmers' incomes, maintain soil fertility, and promote sustainable agriculture.

He said the launch of Haryana FPO Mission-2026 marks a historic step towards making small and marginal farmers economically stronger and self-reliant.

"Around 775 Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) related to agriculture, horticulture, and dairy sectors are currently active in Haryana. Through the new mission, these organisations will be further strengthened while promoting collective agricultural entrepreneurship.


The government will facilitate modern supply chains, value addition, processing, and improved marketing facilities to ensure better prices for farmers' produce. This, he said, will significantly increase farmers' incomes, create new employment opportunities in rural areas, and strengthen Haryana's agricultural value chain", said Saini.

He added that water conservation, soil health, crop diversification, and climate-resilient agriculture form the core pillars of Haryana's agricultural policy.

Schemes such as 'Har Khet Swasth Khet' and Soil Health Card are being effectively implemented to prevent the indiscriminate use of chemical fertilisers.

Haryana Agriculture Minister Shyam Singh Rana said under the leadership of Saini, the Khet Bachao Abhiyan initiated by the Central Government will be implemented more effectively across the state.

"The campaign is not merely a month-long programme but a people's movement aimed at encouraging farmers to adopt sustainable and scientific farming practices.

With the support of agricultural scientists, the Agriculture Department, Krishi Vigyan Kendras, and Farmer Producer Organisations, the campaign will be taken to every village to spread awareness about balanced fertiliser use, soil health conservation, water saving, and natural resource management", added Rana.

On this occasion, Saini and Chouhan inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of development projects worth approximately Rs 125 crore for the Bawal Assembly constituency in Rewari district.

The projects inaugurated included the Government Girls College, Bawal, constructed at a cost of Rs 19.75 crore; a shopping complex and parking facility developed by the Municipal Committee, Bawal, at a cost of Rs 20.29 crore; and the new building of Rampura Police Station, constructed at a cost of Rs 3.33 crore.
