Copper Futures Rise on Global Cues
New Delhi, May 25 (PTI) Copper prices edged higher to Rs 1,346.30 per kilogram in futures trade on Monday, tracking firm trends in overseas markets.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd (MCX), copper contracts for May delivery rose by Rs 1.60, or 0.12 per cent, to Rs 1,346.30 per kilogram in a business turnover of 6,320 lots.

Similarly, the June contract advanced by Rs 1.75, or 0.13 per cent, to Rs 1,364.40 per kg in 12,697 lots.

Analysts said positive global cues and optimism around easing geopolitical tensions supported sentiment in base metals.

In the overseas markets, copper futures on the London Metal Exchange (LME) climbed by USD 146.57, or 1.08 per cent, to USD 13,669 per tonne.

Comex copper for the July contract also rose nearly 1 per cent to USD 6.42 per pound.

Market participants said hopes of easing tensions in West Asia and a softer dollar improved risk appetite across commodity markets.

Trading activity remained relatively thin as UK markets stayed closed on account of a public holiday, limiting broader participation in global metal markets, analysts added.
