Corteva Mavilon Insecticide for Rice Pests in India
New Delhi, Jun 1 (PTI) Corteva Agriscience on Monday introduced Mavilon, a granular insecticide aimed at helping Indian rice farmers get ahead of pest infestations rather than respond to them after damage has already set in.

The product targets Brown Planthopper (BPH) and stem borer, two of the most destructive pests threatening rice yields across India, where the crop underpins both daily diets and the broader agricultural economy.

Applied once at 30 to 35 days after transplanting, Mavilon is designed to provide up to 60 days of protection against BPH and up to 15 days against stem borer, covering what the company describes as the most yield-critical phases of the crop cycle.

Most rice farmers currently rely on reactive spraying, intervening only once pest damage becomes visible. Corteva said this approach leaves crops exposed during the window between infestation and detection, a gap compounded by labour shortages and unpredictable weather at peak growing periods.

The granular formulation is intended to reduce dependence on repeated foliar sprays, cutting operational complexity and the need for last-minute interventions, the company said in a statement.

Corteva, which spun off from DowDuPont in 2019 and operates across more than 140 countries, said Mavilon is part of its broader push to expand science-based crop protection solutions in India.
