Crude oil futures prices climbed Rs 31 to Rs 6,864 per barrel on Friday, driven by increased buying on the back of strong spot demand.

New Delhi, Jan 17 (PTI) Crude oil prices on Friday climbed Rs 31 to Rs 6,864 per barrel in futures trade as participants increased their positions following a firm spot demand.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange, crude oil for February delivery traded higher by Rs 31 or 0.45 per cent at Rs 6,864 per barrel in 9,217 lots.

Analysts said raising of bets by participants kept crude oil prices higher in futures trade.

Globally, West Texas Intermediate crude was trading 0.44 per cent higher at USD 79.03 per barrel while Brent crude was trading 0.17 per cent higher at USD 81.43 per barrel in New York.
