Delhi Govt Seeks DDA Land for Warehousing & Logistics Hubs

New Delhi, Jun 10 (PTI) The Delhi government has sought the help of the DDA in identifying suitable land plots for setting up warehousing facilities at the peripheries of the national capital, officials said on Wednesday.

The government is already in the process of drafting a comprehensive logistics and warehousing policy to boost trade and industry while also decongesting the city.

The proposed policy recommends a string of warehousing facilities on the outskirts of the city as well as logistics hubs to handle freight movement.

The Industries Department is in touch with the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to develop warehousing facilities and logistics infrastructure.

Officials said that the plan is to set up several warehousing facilities and logistics centres on land parcels at least 4-5 acres in size to meet the need of freight movement in the city.


The government is prioritising locations on the city's outskirts, particularly areas with easy access to national highways and major transport corridors, to ensure faster movement of freight and solving the problem of congestion caused by entry of goods vehicles in the city areas, they said.

Industries minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa earlier said that the draft policy proposes relocating warehouses to the city's periphery and shifting last-mile deliveries to electric and CNG vehicles.

These measures would help cut vehicular emissions and reduce congestion at hotspots such as Azadpur, Ghazipur, Naraina and Karol Bagh, he added.

The government is in the final stages of rolling out the 'Logistics and Warehousing Policy' that will use artificial intelligence based planning, real-time tracking and digital freight management systems, officials said.

Localised storage hubs and micro-fulfilment centres will also be set up to ensure faster and more organised last-mile deliveries. Over 60 per cent of warehousing demand in the city currently comes from the e-commerce sector and the policy is designed to attract significant investment in developing infrastructure, officials added.
