India''s first GAGAN-based precision approach by a commercial IndiGo A321 at Udaipur airport marks a milestone, enhancing flight safety & reliability.

New Delhi, Jul 1 (PTI) Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu on Wednesday said the first precision approach by a commercial aircraft using India's indigenous satellite-based augmentation system GAGAN has been successfully completed.
The precision approach based on GAGAN was completed by an Airbus A321 aircraft of IndiGo at Udaipur airport last month.
In a post on X, Naidu said India is among the few countries in the world with an indigenous satellite-based augmentation system certified for civil aviation.
"This indigenous technology enables more precise landings without requiring additional ground infrastructure, helping expand precision approach capability across India's airports," he said, adding that for passengers, it means more precise and reliable flight operations, especially during challenging weather conditions.
According to him, India has achieved the first successful GAGAN-based precision approach by a commercial jet aircraft, bringing the indigenous satellite navigation system into mainstream commercial jet operations.
GAGAN (GPS Aided GEO Augmented Navigation) is the system developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Airports Authority of India.
It enhances GPS accuracy and provides integrity information for safer aircraft navigation.
