GeM crosses Rs 20 lakh crore in procurement since 2016, leveraging AI/ML for integrity. ICAT simplifies bus body certification for safer public transport.

New Delhi, Aug 7 (PTI) Public procurement portal GeM on Friday said the platform has facilitated the buying of goods and services worth over Rs 20 lakh crore since its launch in August 2016.
In the first four months of 2026â27, GeM (government e-marketplace) recorded a GMV (gross merchandise value) of Rs 1,47,888 crore.
In the last decade, it said the number of sellers has increased from 3,339 to 25.45 lakh, while primary buyer organisations have grown from 1,707 to 1.37 lakh.
GeM has deployed Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) tools to identify suspected cartelisation, collusion and order splitting.

* ICAT simplifies certification process for bus body building firms
The International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) has unveiled a comprehensive process simplification framework for AIS-052, AIS-153 and AIS-119 certification of bus bodies under the provisions of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR), 1989.
The initiative is aimed at promoting safer public transport and facilitating ease of compliance assessment process for the bus body building industry, said an official.
To familiarise industry stakeholders with the revised process, ICAT organised an industry seminar on Friday at ICAT Centre-II in Manesar, Haryana.
The initiative has been developed in line with the guidelines of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) that mandate that regulatory processes should be made simpler and more efficient without any dilution of safety, quality or the intent of the regulations, he added.
According to an official statement, following extensive consultations with industry stakeholders and a detailed technical study, ICAT has redesigned the certification process to eliminate duplication of engineering effort, improve coordination, simplify documentation and provide end-to-end technical support.
