GHCL Ltd reports a 23% drop in Q4 net profit to Rs 115.6 cr due to rising expenses. Domestic demand shows recovery signs. Full year profit down 24.3%.
New Delhi, May 5 (PTI) GHCL Ltd, the country's second-largest soda ash producer, on Tuesday reported a 23 per cent decline in consolidated Q4 net profit to Rs 115.64 crore, hurt by rising expenses even as domestic demand showed signs of recovery.
Net profit stood at Rs 150.27 crore in a year earlier, according to a regulatory filing.
Its total income rose marginally to Rs 790.51 crore from Rs 781.47 crore, but expenses climbed to Rs 644.25 crore from Rs 595.64 crore in the same period last year.
For the full 2025-26, consolidated net profit dropped 24.30 per cent to Rs 472.46 crore from Rs 624.15 crore a year ago.
Managing Director R S Jalan said domestic demand had remained resilient despite a volatile global soda ash market, with a moderation in import flows supporting more stable conditions and improving realizations in India.
"Our performance in Q4 FY26 reflects strengthening domestic market conditions, even as the global soda ash landscape remains volatile," Jalan said.
He cited supply chain disruptions along key shipping routes, geopolitical tensions in West Asia, and currency movements as factors continuing to weigh on global markets.
Jalan said the company's focus on cost optimisation, energy efficiency and process improvements had helped it maintain margins. Diversification projects in bromine and vacuum salt were in advanced stages and expected to be commissioned in the first quarter of the current financial year, he added.
Progress on a greenfield soda ash project had been slower than anticipated, Jalan said, adding that the company remained committed to aligning capital deployment with evolving market conditions.
GHCL operates a soda ash manufacturing plant at Sutrapada, Gujarat, with an installed production capacity of 1.2 million tonnes per annum.
Soda ash is a key raw material for detergent and glass industries and is also used in the production of solar glass and lithium batteries.
