New Delhi, Jun 25 (PTI) Global companies and institutional investors have announced more than USD 90 billion in fresh investment commitments to India in recent months, underscoring growing confidence in the country's long-term growth prospects despite mounting geopolitical tensions and global economic uncertainty.
The investment pledges, spanning artificial intelligence, cloud computing, digital infrastructure, manufacturing and industrial technology, come as businesses worldwide grapple with trade disruptions and instability in West Asia, sources said.
Among the largest commitments, Google in February unveiled a five-year USD 15 billion plan to expand AI infrastructure in India, including data centres, subsea connectivity, cloud capacity and workforce skilling initiatives.
Industrial technology group ABB followed in March with a USD 75 million investment aimed at expanding manufacturing and research capabilities across key industrial sectors.
In June, Australia's AirTrunk announced plans to invest USD 30 billion to develop 5 gigawatts of data centre capacity in India by 2030, marking one of the largest digital infrastructure commitments in the country's history.
Canada Pension Plan Investment Board also committed up to Rs 7,000 crore, alongside CtrlS Datacenters, to expand hyperscale data centre capacity and strengthen India's digital infrastructure.
French building materials giant Saint-Gobain said on June 18 that it would invest an additional 1 billion euros in India over the next five years, describing the country as one of its fastest-growing markets globally.
The latest and largest commitment came on Thursday when Amazon Chief Executive Andy Jassy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and announced plans to raise the company's India investment commitment to USD 48 billion by 2030, including significant investments in AI and cloud infrastructure.
The wave of investment announcements highlights India's growing appeal as a destination for global capital, with multinational corporations increasingly viewing the country as a key driver of future growth, digital transformation and manufacturing expansion.
Taken together, the commitments signal that global boardrooms are doubling down on India even as economic and geopolitical uncertainty clouds the outlook elsewhere, sources added.
