Chandigarh, Apr 8 (PTI) Haryana Labour Minister Anil Vij on Wednesday said the state government has increased the minimum wage for unskilled workers to Rs 15,220 per month from Rs 11,274.60.
Vij said the decision to increase the minimum wage, which will come into effect retrospectively from April 1, was taken in a meeting of the state cabinet here.
The cabinet met here under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who later told reporters that the decision would directly benefit lakhs of unskilled workers in the state and improve their standard of living.
The chief minister said that during the budget session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha, he had announced that an expert committee had recommended an increase in the minimum wage for unskilled workers.
The Cabinet has now approved fixing the minimum wage at Rs 15,220 per month.
Saini said that the state government is giving top priority to the welfare and social security of workers. This increase in minimum wages will not only raise the income of unskilled workers but will also strengthen the economic condition of their families.
