Himachal Pradesh prepares for apple season with new relief schemes for small growers & disaster-hit farmers. Minister Negi announces mobile app & DBT.
Shimla, Jul 17 (PTI) The Himachal Pradesh government is fully geared up for the apple season, and several schemes have been formulated to provide relief to small growers and those affected by natural disasters, Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi said on Friday.
Negi said several rounds of meetings have been held to prepare for the apple season, and urged farmers to register on a special mobile app launched for the convenience of growers.
Information regarding apple procurement under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) would be made available through the special mobile app, the minister said.
Two crucial Himachal Pradesh Horticultural Produce Marketing and Processing Corporation (HPMC) meetings have taken place at the Chief Minister's level to ensure better facilities for apple growers, he said in a statement.
He informed that the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme has been launched, and agricultural and horticultural inputs worth approximately Rs 14 crore have been distributed so far.
Regarding apple procurement, he clarified that the government has not issued any instructions limiting procurement to just 30 bags.
Addressing complaints about increasing the weight of 'universal cartons' by applying extra tape, he adopted a stern stance, stating that action would be taken against those involved in such practices.
Referring to roads damaged by rain during the monsoon, the Minister stated that 47 roads are currently blocked, and efforts to restore them are underway.
When asked about his alleged displeasure over the appointment of Nigam Bhandari as the Kinnaur District Congress President, Negi said he holds no grievance against any specific individual.
He said, "I am dissatisfied with the system, not with any person. We will strive to fix the system while working within it."
Regarding the appointment of the Kinnaur District President against his wishes, he remarked that it is a positive development that Nigam Bhandari has expressed a willingness to work together, adding that everyone should work collaboratively.
