IHC''s Mariam Almheiri highlights India as a top investment destination, detailing a $2B partnership with Adani Group for energy & infrastructure growth.
Mumbai, Jun 7 (PTI) India is emerging as one of the world's most compelling destinations for long-term capital, with opportunities across energy, infrastructure and technology that are expected to define the next decade of global growth, Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri of Abu Dhabi-based International Holding Co. (IHC) said.
Speaking at an investor conference hosted by the Adani Group, Almheiri said India offers global investors something increasingly scarce: the opportunity to build long-term partnerships alongside large-scale growth opportunities.
"India offers partnership," Almheiri said. "We have an amazing partnership with Adani. It's a huge partnership that we're investing in with the Adani Group, which we're so proud of."
She said India offered something increasingly valuable to global investors: deep, long-term partnerships.
Almheiri said IHC, one of the Middle East's largest listed companies with a market capitalisation of about USD 234 billion, has committed roughly USD 2 billion alongside the Adani Group across sectors including renewable energy, battery storage, power transmission and nuclear-related opportunities.
Her comments came at a conference attended by more than 800 investors, bankers, fund managers and corporate executives, as the Adani Group outlined plans for its next phase of expansion and sought to position itself at the centre of India's infrastructure and energy buildout, according to people attending the event.
The gathering brought together representatives from some of the world's largest pools of capital, including officials from the Qatar Investment Authority, Temasek, Apollo Global Management and investment firm Alphawave Global, alongside senior executives from Indian financial institutions and asset managers.
Technology leaders, including Vijay Shekhar Sharma, as well as representatives from Google and SAP, also attended, reflecting the growing convergence of digital infrastructure, energy transition and economic development.
Senior Adani executives used the event to outline investment plans spanning energy, logistics, airports, transport infrastructure, data centres and urban development. The group has previously announced plans to invest about USD 100 billion over the next four years, with executives indicating the figure could rise as projects advance.
According to people who attended the event, Sagar Adani told participants that every major economy experiences a period when investment opportunities become disproportionately attractive and argued that India could be entering such a phase over the next decade as infrastructure spending accelerates and economic growth gathers pace.
Several panel discussions focused on the group's operating model, execution capabilities and the capital requirements associated with India's infrastructure expansion across power generation, transmission networks, renewable energy, data centres and urban infrastructure, while highlighting the group's strategy of building businesses at scale across interconnected sectors.
The conference drew representatives from several of the world's largest pools of capital, including Deven Karnik, Head of India at Qatar Investment Authority, Nishant Chandra, India Head of Singapore state investor Temasek, representatives of Apollo Global Management, Navroz Udwadia, founder of Alphawave Global, and Ashwani Kumar Tewari, Managing Director of State Bank of India.
Alphawave is known for backing companies, including SpaceX and Anthropic, and media reports have previously linked the firm to discussions regarding a potential investment in Adani Group's airports business, although no transaction has been announced.
The audience also included senior executives from leading Indian and global asset managers, sovereign wealth funds, pension funds and some of India's largest mutual fund houses.
Technology executives also featured prominently at the event, including Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma alongside representatives from Google and SAP, highlighting the increasing overlap between India's infrastructure buildout, digital economy and energy transition.
The conference concluded with a presentation by Pranav Adani on the Dharavi redevelopment project in Mumbai, one of India's largest urban renewal programmes, which executives cited as an example of the country's evolving development model that combines economic growth with social inclusion.
