Indian Firms & Ransomware: Rs 12 Cr Payouts
New Delhi, Apr 15 (PTI) The majority of Indian firms that were hit by ransomware in 2025 paid a ransom of over Rs 12 crore on average, cybersecurity firm Check Point Software Technologies said in a report.

As per the report findings, India has emerged as the Asia-Pacific epicentre of ransomware activity, with manufacturing organisations witnessing a marked rise in frequency and impact.

"According to the Exposure Management Research report, for the full year of 2025, 65 per cent of affected Indian organisations paid ransoms, with average pay-outs reaching USD 1.35 million," according to the Manufacturing Threat Landscape 2025 report released on Tuesday.

According to the report, 201 Indian firms were affected by ransomware.

"While the United States reported the highest number of incidents (713), India's position as a high-volume target (201) reflects both its scale and rapid industrial digitisation.

"Similar patterns are visible across Europe and the UK, where attacks on manufacturing continue to trigger downstream disruptions across automotive, aerospace, and logistics sectors," the report said.

Globally, attacks on manufacturers rose 56 per cent from 937 incidents in 2024 to 1,466 in 2025 as threat actors increasingly prioritise operational disruption and supply chain leverage over standalone data theft, the report said.
