ISMA Members Receive Maruti Suzuki''s Flex-Fuel Wagon R
New Delhi, Jun 16 (PTI) Members of the Indian Sugar & Bio-energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA) on Tuesday took delivery of Maruti Suzuki's Wagon R flex-fuel vehicle here in the national capital, among the first retail customers for the model designed to run on ethanol-petrol blends from E20 to E100.

ISMA President Niraj Shirgaokar said the adoption would "directly contribute to the next phase of clean mobility, reducing crude oil import dependency and creating a sustainable demand cycle that benefits Indian farmers".

Director General Deepak Ballani said the move was meant to signal confidence to automakers and consumers alike. "The ethanol ecosystem is mature, reliable, and ready to power the future of Indian transport," he said in a statement.

ISMA members are producers and suppliers under the national ethanol blending programme.

The association said E100-capable vehicles would help channel fuel expenditure back into the agricultural sector - completing what it described as a full-circle shift from ethanol producers to end users of flex-fuel technology.

India has been scaling up ethanol blending targets as part of a broader push to cut crude oil import dependence.
