He said that the initiative is designed to take the food experience of Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation's (KSTDC) Mayura Hotels beyond hotel premises and directly to high-footfall tourist locations.
In the first phase, food vans are proposed to be deployed at Hampi, Madikeri, Jog Falls, Mysuru, Nandi Hills and key tourist locations in Bengaluru, officials said.
According to a statement issued by the minister's office, KSTDC currently operates 24 Mayura Hotels across Karnataka. At some destinations, the hotels are located away from the main visitor zones. The new mobile model will help bridge that gap by taking Mayura's food and hospitality closer to tourists.
The 'Mayura Ruchi On Wheels' will serve popular breakfast items, snacks, meals and selected regional specialities from different parts of Karnataka, while also introducing visitors to the State's diverse culinary traditions, it said.
"A good tourism experience must also include access to good food. Through 'Mayura Ruchi on Wheels', we want to take the taste and quality of Mayura Hotels directly to visitors at major tourist destinations. The initiative will also promote local cuisine, create employment opportunities and contribute to KSTDC's revenue," George said.
KSTDC Chairman M Srinivas said that the corporation is taking up a mobile food service initiative of this kind for the first time to ensure that tourists have easy access to Mayura's quality food at high-footfall locations.
"By giving preference to local dishes, the initiative can also create employment and business opportunities for local communities," he said.
Tourism Secretary Ram Prasath Manohar said, "Food is an integral part of the tourism experience. 'Mayura Ruchi on Wheels' will extend KSTDC's hospitality services beyond hotel premises and closer to visitors".
