New Delhi, Mar 24 (PTI) Maruti Suzuki India on Tuesday said it will invest Rs 10,189 crore to set up 2.5 lakh production capacity in the first phase at its new manufacturing plant in Gujarat.

The company said its board has approved the addition of the first phase of capacity of 2.5 lakh vehicles per annum at Khoraj Industrial Estate manufacturing plant in Gujarat, the auto major's fifth manufacturing plant in the country.

The first phase of capacity at the plant is expected to be added by 2029, subject to market conditions, Maruti Suzuki India said in a regulatory filing.

The first phase entails an investment of Rs 10,189 crore and would be taken up with internal accruals, it added.

"This includes investment for the first phase of the car manufacturing plant having an annual manufacturing capacity of 2.5 lakh units and some common infrastructure and facilities for future plants," the auto major stated.

The total existing capacity of the company is around 24 lakh units per annum in Gurugram, Manesar, Kharkhoda (all in Haryana), and Hansalpur (Gujarat), with a capability to produce 26 lakh units per annum.

This also includes the units produced at erstwhile Suzuki Motor Gujarat, which has been amalgamated with the company. The automaker noted that its existing production capacity is fully utilised.

In January this year, the company's board approved a Rs 4,960-crore proposal to acquire land and expand its manufacturing capacity in Gujarat.

The board granted approval to acquire land for the expansion of production capacity at Khoraj Industrial Estate from Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation.

In 2024, Suzuki Motor Corporation President Toshihiro Suzuki announced that the company's Indian arm, Maruti Suzuki India, would invest Rs 35,000 crore to set up its second manufacturing facility in Gujarat with an installed production capacity of 10 lakh units per annum.

Maruti shares were trading 1.10 per cent up at Rs 12,489.65 apiece on the BSE.
