MCD reports a 46% rise in property tax collection to Rs 3,116.62 crore in FY26, driven by compliance, enforcement, and the SUNIYO amnesty scheme.

New Delhi, Apr 1 (PTI) The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has recorded a 46 per cent rise in property tax collection in 2025â26, due to improved compliance, enforcement measures and the property amnesty scheme.
According to an official statement issued by the civic body on Wednesday, property tax collection surged 46.12 per cent to Rs 3,116.62 crore in FY26 from Rs 2,132.89 crore collected in the previous financial year.
The number of taxpayers increased 19.36 per cent to 13,52,562 in 2025â26 from 11,33,161 a year ago, it added.
The corporation said that a significant share of the revenue came through the property tax amnesty scheme Sumpattikar Niptaan Yojana (SUNIYO), under which Rs 1,236.03 crore was collected from 2,06,861 taxpayers in 2025-26.
Of this, Rs 242.87 crore came from over 1.47 lakh residential properties, while Rs 993.52 crore was collected from more than 59,000 non-residential properties.
Officials said around 1.12 lakh people paid property tax for the first time under the scheme, contributing Rs 448.89 crore, and indicating a widening of the tax base.
The civic body said it also used third-party data, such as trade licences and electricity records, to identify previously unassessed or non-compliant properties.
Through this exercise, 5,808 new properties were mapped, generating Rs 25.68 crore, while another 43,114 properties identified through power distribution data yielded about Rs 40.20 crore.
Action was also taken against long-pending defaulters, with some properties being attached to enforce compliance, the statement added.
MCD has extended the SUNIYO scheme to April 30 with a five per cent penalty, urging taxpayers to clear pending dues within the deadline.
