Aizawl, May 27 (PTI) Mizoram's lone Rajya Sabha MP Vanlalvena met senior World Bank officials in Washington DC to seek support for a series of major infrastructure and economic development projects in the state, an official said on Wednesday.

During the meeting held on Tuesday, Vanlalvena held discussions with four senior World Bank officials dealing with India, Bangladesh and Bhutan affairs, including Executive Director Parameswar Iyer, he said.

The discussions focused on securing financial assistance and technical support for key infrastructure and livelihood projects suited to Mizoram's geographical and economic conditions, he added.

Among the proposals presented were multipurpose rainwater harvesting projects, development of large-scale and small-scale bamboo industries, promotion of agro-based and forest-based industries, construction of flyovers in Aizawl, and installation of solar-powered portable outdoor stairways in the state capital, the official said.

The World Bank representatives responded positively to the proposals and indicated that the projects appeared feasible and could be explored further, he said.
