Mumbai, Jun 11 (PTI) Passengers travelling on Mumbai's Metro Line 3, also called as Aqua line, will soon be able to access mobile network services across the entire underground corridor as telecom operators are expanding coverage along the route.
In a release issued on Thursday, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) said telecom operators Airtel and Vodafone Idea have already resumed mobile services on sections of the underground metro corridor.
As per the MMRC, Airtel's network is currently available at all stations between SEEPZ and BKC, while Vodafone Idea services have been activated between SEEPZ and Acharya Atre Chowk station in Worli and are expected to be extended up to Cuffe Parade shortly, it said.
Airtel plans to provide network coverage across the entire Aqua Line by the end of June, the MMRC said.
Meanwhile, Reliance Jio has completed a survey of the entire route, and work to install network infrastructure is expected to begin soon. Jio services are likely to become available across the full corridor within the next month, the release added.
The MMRC said it is coordinating with all telecom operators to enhance passenger convenience and ensure seamless mobile connectivity across the entire stretch from Aarey-JVLR to Cuffe Parade within the next month.
In the absence of mobile network coverage, passengers travelling on the underground metro corridor have faced several difficulties, ranging from difficulty in making digital payments for metro tickets to making phone calls during their journey.
