NavPrakriti & IIT Kharagpur Partner on Battery Recycling

New Delhi, May 26 (PTI) Battery recycling and refurbishment firm NavPrakriti on Tuesday said it has signed an initial pact with IIT Kharagpur, to advance battery recycling, research, and skill development in support of India's clean energy ambitions.

The partnership assumes significance in view of India's net zero (emission) target for 2070 and target of installing around 500GW of renewable energy by 2030.

According to a company statement, NavPrakriti, eastern India's pioneering lithium-ion battery recycling and refurbishment company, has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur.


The strategic partnership is poised to catalyse innovation, talent development, and technological advancement in India's rapidly expanding battery and critical minerals ecosystem, it stated.

As India sets its target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030 and net zero emissions, the need for robust battery recycling, resource circularity, and skilled talent has never been greater, the company said.

The NavPrakriti-IIT Kharagpur MoU aims to address these priorities through a multi-pronged approach, encompassing student internship programs, joint research projects, skill development and capacity building initiatives, as well as technological consulting projects focused on refining and refurbishment of end-of-life batteries.
