NTPC to Set Up STEM Labs in Meghalaya Schools
Guwahati, Apr 30 (PTI) State-run power major NTPC on Thursday said it will set up educational laboratories in 27 government schools in Meghalaya's Ri-Bhoi district.

NTPC Ltd entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Ri-Bhoi District Administration for setting up STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) laboratories under its CSR initiative in the northeast, the company said in a statement.

The project will be executed by NTPC's Bongaigaon unit, located in Kokrajhar district of Assam.

"Under this initiative, NTPC will extend financial support of up to Rs 1.48 crore for setting up fully equipped STEM laboratories in 27 government schools, aimed at enhancing scientific temperament, creativity and problem-solving skills among students," it said.

The project will cover infrastructure development, procurement of modern STEM kits, teacher training and ongoing maintenance support, the company said.

The district administration will act as the implementing agency, and will be responsible for execution, procurement, quality assurance and coordination with beneficiary schools.

NTPC, as the funding agency, will monitor progress through periodic reviews, site inspections and impact assessments to ensure effective implementation of the project, it said.

"The STEM laboratories will be established within existing school infrastructure, and will include advanced learning tools such as robotics kits, renewable energy models, electronics modules and digital learning aids.

"The initiative also incorporates structured teacher training programmes and baseline-to-endline assessment to measure learning outcomes and overall impact," the statement said.

The project is expected to benefit a large number of students across Ri-Bhoi district by providing hands-on exposure to scientific concepts and fostering innovation at the grassroots level, it said.

"The collaboration is also aligned with national priorities of promoting STEM education and building future-ready talent, particularly in underserved regions," NTPC said.
