Odisha govt & OMCs assure stable fuel supply, dismissing scarcity rumors. Farmers in some districts report diesel shortage for agriculture.
Bhubaneswar, May 18 (PTI) The Odisha government and oil marketing companies (OMCs) on Monday said that there was no scarcity of any fuel in the state.
Chief Secretary Anu Garg, who chaired the State Crisis Group meeting here, said, "I am told by the OMCs that everything is normal now and there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, cooking gas or urea fertiliser. I appeal to people not to pile stock and not to believe in rumours of fuel crisis."
The meeting was attended by representatives of OMCs such as IOCL, BPCL, and HPCL.
The OMCs maintained that the supply of essential petroleum products - including Petrol (MS), Diesel (HSD), and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) - remains stable, uninterrupted, and fully adequate across all distribution channels.
The chief secretary warned that anyone found hoarding fuel illegally will face strict action. The district collectors have been instructed to monitor the situation closely and take immediate steps against violators.
IOCL general manager Kamal Sheel said that the entire fuel supply chain, encompassing terminals, depots, and retail outlets, is functioning seamlessly without any operational disruptions. Fuel inventories are being monitored in real time, and replenishment operations are being carried out smoothly to maintain optimal stock levels at all locations across the state, he said.
Stating that the supply of LPG to domestic consumers continues to be accorded the highest priority and remains normal across Odisha, the OMCs informed the state government that the situation is under constant and close surveillance to ensure timely and uninterrupted delivery to all households.
"The oil industry is maintaining robust coordination on logistics, stock movement, and retail operations to guarantee seamless availability of fuel throughout the region. Citizens are requested to maintain normal consumption patterns and are strongly advised against resorting to panic buying," an official statement said.
However, farmers in Odisha's Malkangiri and Nabarangpur districts hit the streets demanding diesel for their agricultural activities.
"Though petrol is readily available, there is a scarcity of diesel in outlets. Many filing stations do not have diesel, for which farmers have stopped operating tractors and thrashing machines," said Jagannath Bisoi, a farmer in Nabarangpur district.
Similar reports were also received from Sundergarh district.
