Pakistan''s Record Remittances Hit $4.25B in May 2026
Karachi, Jun 10 (PTI) Pakistan's under-pressure economy has received a record USD 4.25 billion in workers' remittances in May 2026, the highest inflow in the country's history, the central bank said Wednesday.

The latest inflow is up 20 per cent compared to April 2026 and 15 per cent higher than May 2025, according to the data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and estimates by brokerage house Topline Research.

Cumulative remittances during July to May of FY2025/26 reached USD 38.1 billion, reflecting a 9 per cent increase compared to the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.

The latest figures place Pakistan on track to achieve its highest annual remittance inflow on record since 1947, it said.

The report said this is the highest monthly inflow in the country's history and provides support to the external sector and foreign exchange reserves.

Pakistan's foreign exchange reserve is about to reach USD 18 billion for FY26, but expanding trade deficit poses a challenge, it was reported on June 5.

The country's foreign exchange reserves increased by USD 43 million to reach USD 17.2 billion for the week ending May 29, putting the nation on track to reach its USD 18 billion target by the end of June, the SBP data revealed.

According to the report on Wednesday, the increase was also due to the Eid-ul Azha festival last month with the inflow of remittances driven by Pakistanis abroad who send more money home during festive periods because of the seasonal requirements.

Saudi Arabia remained the largest source of remittances in May, contributing USD 1.03 billion, followed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with USD 1.01 billion.

Remittances from the UK stood at USD 645 million, while inflows from the US reached USD 350 million.

Strong growth was also recorded from the European Union and other regions.

The report said that the continued increase in remittances from overseas Pakistan is going a long way in providing stability to the country's external account despite the economic challenges.

With one month remaining in FY26, Topline Research expects total remittances for the fiscal year to exceed USD 41 billion for the first time, setting a new annual record for Pakistan.
