Jaipur, May 12 (PTI) Rajasthan's power distribution companies (DISCOMs) have reduced their debt burden by Rs 1,352 crore in the 2025-26 financial year through tighter financial management and improved revenue recovery, as per an official statement.
The combined debt of the state's three DISCOMs declined from Rs 97,970 crore in 2024-25 to Rs 96,618 crore in 2025-26 under measures initiated by the energy department under the supervision of energy minister Heeralal Nagar, the release said.
Ajmer Vidyut Vitran Nigam reduced its debt by Rs 935 crore during the period, while Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam brought down its liabilities by Rs 644 crore.
However, the debt burden of Jodhpur Vidyut Vitran Nigam rose from Rs 36,792 crore to Rs 37,019 crore.
Officials attributed the improvement to strict implementation of financial norms, expenditure controls, recovery of pending dues and reduced interest rates on loans.
The state government also secured loans for DISCOMs from Power Finance Corporation and Rural Electrification Corporation at concessional interest rates beginning from 8.75 per cent.
The reduction in interest rates by 0.90 per cent to 1.40 per cent helped lower the burden of high-cost loans, it added.
The government also claimed that all three DISCOMs achieved more than 100 per cent revenue realisation for the first time in 2025-26.
Jaipur DISCOM recorded 102 per cent revenue collection, Ajmer DISCOM 100.23 per cent and Jodhpur DISCOM 100.96 per cent.
Jaipur DISCOM also claimed to have replaced all defective electricity meters across its circles during the financial year, leading to a sharp reduction in average billing and savings of nearly Rs 1.9 crore.
