Key Points
- Silver futures declined by Rs 749 to Rs 2.41 lakh/kg on Friday.
- The fall was primarily due to profit-taking after recent gains.
- Uncertainty in global markets and elevated fuel prices contributed to the decline.
- Concerns over inflation and interest rates impacted investor sentiment for precious metals.
- Comex silver futures also traded marginally lower in global markets.
On the Multi Commodity Exchange, the December contract of the metal fell by Rs 749, or 0.31 per cent, to Rs 2,41,600 per kg.
Analysts said silver prices came under pressure as investors booked profits after recent gains, while uncertainty over the global economic outlook also weighed on sentiment.
"Renewed US strikes on Iran and Iranian retaliation, combined with a decline in Strait of Hormuz traffic and refinery damage across the Middle East and Russia, have tightened supply concerns, keeping fuel prices elevated," said Akshat Siddhant, Lead Quant Analyst at investment platform Mudrex.
Elevated fuel prices weighed on investor appetite for precious metals as concerns over inflation and the interest-rate outlook increased, he added.
In global markets, Comex silver futures for December delivery traded marginally lower at USD 67.63 per ounce in New York.
