New Delhi, Apr 17 (PTI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday called on Union Food Minister Pralhad Joshi and demanded procurement of 30 lakh tonnes of boiled rice in the rabi season from the state, release of Rs 1,468.94 crore procurement dues and resumption of Fortified Rice Kernels (FRK) supply immediately.

Reddy, who was accompanied by state civil supplies minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, informed the union minister that paddy production in Telangana is pegged at 90 lakh tonnes for the 2026 rabi season and the grain was suitable for milling of boiled rice, while stressing the need for its supply in view of the growing demand across the country.

"Telangana is ready to supply a total of 30 lakh tonne of parboiled rice (with 5 per cent broken rice content) and 5 LMT of raw rice (with 10 per cent broken rice content) from the Yasangi harvest," Reddy said in a meeting held at Joshi's residence here.

In a quick response, Joshi gave in-principle approval for the proposal of supply of boiled rice, the state government said in a statement.

The CM also appealed to Joshi to expedite the release of outstanding dues of Rs 1,468.94 crore pertaining to the procurement of additional levy from the 2014-15 Kharif (monsoon) season.

Joshi was also requested to resume the distribution of Fortified Rice Kernels (FRK) immediately.

The fortified rice was distributed through schools, hostels and ICDS centres to prevent anaemia and nutritional deficiencies among children. The central scheme was, however, stopped recently, he added.

State Government Special Representative in Delhi A P Jithender Reddy, Secretary (Coordination), Advait Singh, and officials from the Union Ministry of Food and Public Distribution were present in the meeting.
