Thane, Mar 23 (PTI) Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao on Monday presented a Rs 6,221.12 crore budget for the 2026-27 fiscal, focusing on infrastructure, health, and education without proposing any hike in municipal taxes.

The budget was presented in the general body meeting held under Mayor Sharmila Pimpolkar.

Presenting the financial statement, Rao emphasized maintaining financial discipline while enhancing the standard of living for citizens through sustainable "Green Thane" solutions and improved administrative transparency.

Leader of the House, Hanumant Jagdale, moved a resolution praising Rao's work as an administrator over the past two years, which was seconded by Leader of Opposition Ashraf Shanu Pathan.


Interacting with the media, Rao said revenue income is estimated at Rs 4,078 crore, while total expenditure is pegged at Rs 6,221.12 crore, comprising revenue expenditure of Rs 3,818.17 crore and capital expenditure of Rs 2,401.55 crore.

The corporation expects to generate Rs 2,376 crore from its own earnings, including Rs 1,120 crore from property tax and fees, he said.

"Another Rs 1,702 crore is expected via GST, stamp duty, and grants, while Rs 490 crore will be raised through loans and bonds. Efforts to bring more properties into the tax net are expected to yield an additional Rs 400 crore," Rao said.

On the expenditure side, Rs 1,716 crore has been earmarked for wages and allowances, and Rs 1,606 crore for basic ward-level facilities. Significant allocations include Rs 929 crore for waste management, Rs 448 crore for water supply, and over Rs 439 crore for education, the civic chief informed.

Rao confirmed that ongoing projects, including the new civic headquarters, are slated for completion by the end of 2026.
