Mumbai, Jul 7 (PTI) TVS Motor Company has been outperforming the two-wheeler industry in the premium and super-premium segments, with the company clocking an average 29 per cent market share growth over three years, a top official said.
"See overall if you look at our segment share last year, over the last three years, if I could look at the average, we were able to clock in a market share growth of about 29 per cent growth in our premium and super premium segment versus an industry growth of about 11.6 per cent. So, to that extent, it has outpaced the industry growth in this segment," said Gaurav Gupta, President, India two-wheeler business at TVS Motor Company.
He said that the company continues to work in areas such as product development and reaching out to its customers through network expansion to build on this momentum going forward.
Two-wheeler retail sales spiked 21.22 per cent to 18,28,458 units in June this year, though they were marginally down 0.89 per cent sequentially, according to the Federation of Indian Automobile Dealers' Association (FADA).
For the previous month, TVS Motor's total two-wheeler sales spiked 47 per cent year-on-year to 565,417 units in June, up from 385,698 units in June 2025, with domestic sales rising 46 per cent to 411,014 units, up from 281,012 units in the same month last year.
For the first quarter of the fiscal year, the total two-wheeler sales stood at 15.64 lakh units, up 27 per cent year-on-year from 12.32 Lakh units in the first quarter of FY 2025-26.
Stating that the growth in the premium segment is "promising," Gupta said, "it is definitely growing as we have seen it across various industries in the country and keeping that in mind, we will keep on working in the same area as well."
"As we keep evolving and keep understanding our customers' needs more and more, we will keep working in the areas around it (premiumisation) for them."
The two-wheeler industry, he said, has seen growth in the last fiscal, which has also been triggered by the GST restructuring and has given a much-needed boost to the industry. He added that the overall momentum the industry has seen right now will continue.
On electric two-wheeler penetration in the country, which logged over 10 per cent growth in June, he said various factors have driven this growth, including increased availability of products, brands, and choices.
It is also because of a lot of maturity and understanding of the country's charging ecosystem, along with the geopolitical situation, Gupta said.
"But having said so, I think every technology takes time to build up, and then it hits a tipping point where it starts to accelerate in terms of its growth," he said.
The overall EV two-wheeler sales posted a whopping 74.98 per cent sales growth in June at 1,93,735 units in June against 1,70,733 units sold in the corresponding month last year, according to FADA.
TVS Motor EV sales grew 76.05 per cent to 47,064 units in June, over 32,459 units retailed in the same month of last fiscal year, FADA said.
