Umbrella Import Price Set at Rs 100
New Delhi, Feb 5 (PTI) The government on Thursday imposed a minimum import price of Rs 100 per piece on umbrellas, a move which would help boost domestic manufacturing of the product.

Import of an umbrella below this price will not be allowed.

"The import policy and policy condition of finished umbrellas...are revised from free to restricted. However, import shall be free if the CIF (cost, insurance, freight) value is Rs 100 and above per piece," the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification.

However, these restrictions will not be applied to importers carrying Advance Authorisations, export-oriented units (EOUs), and special economic zones (SEZs).

Recently, in the Budget 2026-27, the government has increased import duty on umbrellas to Rs 60 per piece or 20 per cent, whichever is higher.

On import of parts, trimmings and accessories, the duty was raised to 10 per cent or Rs 25 per kg, whichever is higher.

According to a report, China supplies 95.8 per cent of umbrellas and sun umbrellas to India.
