UP Electricity Demand Hits Record 30,760 MW; Supply Uninterrupted

Lucknow, Jun 17 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh's power distribution company UPPCL on Wednesday said it has ensured uninterrupted electricity supply across the state despite the demand hitting a new record of 30,760 MW amid the peak summer season.

The state saw an all-time high demand of 30,760 MW on Tuesday, the third consecutive day of peak demand, according to Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL).

The discom supplied 29,579 MW of electricity on June 15 and 29,571 MW on June 14.

Despite such high demand, no large-scale power crisis emerged anywhere in the state, UPPCL said in a statement.

In terms of demand-based power supply, UP has surpassed several states, including Tamil Nadu, Punjab and Karnataka.


The continuous record-level power supply reflects the state government's efforts to strengthen infrastructure in the energy sector, the dicom said.

The government has asked officials to ensure an uninterrupted power supply to residents according to the prescribed roster. As a result, electricity supply conditions have improved significantly in both urban and rural areas compared to earlier years, it said.

People in most parts of the state are receiving electricity for adequate hours, which has also supported domestic, commercial and agricultural activities, it added.

Power employees are working around the clock despite extreme heat, strong winds and rain. Faults in power lines are being repaired immediately, while transformers and electrical equipment are being closely monitored. Energy department teams remain active in the field even during the night to carry out maintenance work so that consumers do not face any inconvenience, the statement said.

The department is also running a special campaign to reduce tripping and fault incidents. Besides, senior officers are visiting substations and power houses to review arrangements.

UPPCL Director (Distribution) Gyanendra Dhar Dwivedi said, "The state is continuously meeting electricity demand and the entire UPPCL team is working day and night to ensure that consumers do not face any inconvenience."
