UP to conduct GPS-based sugarcane crop survey May 1-June 30. Farmers get SMS alerts. Accurate data, timely payments ensured.
Lucknow, Apr 24 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government will conduct a GPS-based survey of sugarcane crops across the state from May 1 to June 30 for the 2026-27 crushing season, and registered farmers will be informed via SMS in advance, according to an official statement issued on Friday.
The survey has been rolled out by the Cane Development and Sugar Industry Department at the direction of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
As per the statement, all registered sugarcane farmers will receive SMS notifications three days prior to the survey. Each survey team will comprise a government cane supervisor and a representative of a sugar mill, who will be given special training before the exercise begins.
Farmers' presence in the field during the survey will be mandatory. The teams will record details such as land area, cane variety and estimated production using GPS, and upload the data directly to the department's server.
Cane and Sugar Commissioner Veena Kumari Meena said that after the completion of the survey, all details, including area and crop variety, will be shared with farmers through SMS. Farmers will also be able to verify their surveyed land on the revenue department's website.
Sugar mills will upload final data on the departmental portal and display it on their websites to ensure transparency, the statement said.
The department added that registration of new sugarcane farmers will also be carried out during the survey. Only those registered by September 30, 2026, will be eligible to supply sugarcane.
Applications for yield enhancement measures will be accepted till September 30. A nominal fee of Rs 10 will be charged from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe farmers, Rs 100 from small farmers and Rs 200 from others.
According to the department, the GPS-based survey will prevent data manipulation, enable accurate estimation of production and ensure timely payment to farmers.
Officials have been directed to carry out the survey with full transparency and accuracy.
