Uttarakhand Wheat Procurement Target Raised to 5 Lakh Quintal

Centre increases Uttarakhand''s wheat procurement target to 5 lakh quintal for Rabi season 2026-27 after farmer concerns. MSP at Rs 2,585/quintal.

Dehradun, Apr 16 (PTI) The Centre has increased the wheat procurement target for Uttarakhand from 10,000 quintal to 5 lakh quintal for the ongoing 2026-27 Rabi marketing season following requests from the state government.
"The revision (in procurement target) aims to protect farmers' interest after local growers expressed resentment over previous low targets," Uttarakhand Food and Civil Supplies Secretary Anand Swarup said in a statement.
Already, 5,852 quintal of wheat has been purchased directly from farmers since the commencement of the procurement on April 1, as per the official data.
The secretary appealed to farmers to bring their produce to government purchase centres and avail the benefit of the MSP.
The procurement is undertaken by the Food Corporation of India (FCI) and the state agencies at the minimum support price of Rs 2,585 per quintal fixed for the current season.
About 1,597 farmers have registered on the Smart PDS portal so far.
Currently, the state operates 168 purchase centres, including 45 in the Garhwal division and 123 in the Kumaon division.
