Infosys Foundation pledges over Rs 48 crore to boost maternal and child healthcare infrastructure and services in rural Karnataka, partnering with Prashanthi Balamandira Trust.
New Delhi, Jul 3 (PTI) Infosys Foundation, the CSR arm of IT major Infosys, on Thursday pledged a grant of over Rs 48 crore to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and facilities for maternal and child healthcare in rural Karnataka.

Infosys Foundation has announced its partnership with UN-recognised organisation Prashanthi Balamandira Trust to this effect.

The partnership will support the Sri Sathya Sai Sarla Memorial Hospital, a multi-speciality teaching facility affiliated with the Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (SMSIMSR), in delivering free healthcare services to underprivileged women, infants, and children.

This initiative aims to improve access to quality maternal and child healthcare in rural areas of Karnataka, the company said in a regulatory filing.

"Through this collaboration, the Infosys Foundation has pledged a grant of over Rs 48 crore to augment healthcare infrastructure and facilities in maternal and child care services.

"This includes advanced medical equipment for obstetrics and gynecology, as well as to enhance medical facilities of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), diagnostic radiology, and Operation Theatre (OT).

"A portion of the grant will also cover operational costs," it said.

The initiative is expected to benefit over 8,000 individuals annually.

As a teaching institution, the hospital will also benefit from the new equipment by enabling training and upskilling of undergraduate and postgraduate doctors, as well as nursing and allied healthcare trainees, said SMSIMSR Founder Madhusudan Sai.
