Silver Futures Surge on Spot Demand: Prices Rise to Rs 71,817/kg

New Delhi, Jan 23 (PTI) Silver prices on Tuesday climbed Rs 174 to Rs 71,817 per kilogram in futures trade as participants widened their bets on a firm spot demand.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver contracts for March delivery increased Rs 174, or 0.25 per cent, to Rs 70,990 per kg in 30,082 lots.

Analysts said the rise in silver prices was mainly due to fresh positions built up by participants on a positive domestic trend.

Globally, silver was trading 0.58 per cent higher at USD 22.43 per ounce in New York.
